Orphan domain name
An "orphan domain name" is a domain name that is not anymore administered by a registrar.
The Naming Charters details the procedures to follow in such cases:
- Conditions for .fr domain names (Article 16);
- Conditions for .re domain names (Article 16);
- Conditions for .yt domain names (Article 16);
- Conditions for .pm domain names (Article 16);
- Conditions for .wf domain names (Article 16);
- Conditions for .tf domain names (Article 16).

Since the acronym www (for World Wide Web) is losing its cultural connotations in French, the Office for the French language recommends the use of W3 for phonetic reasons. Some authors prefer to call it "the Web".
