Get in touch with the administrative contact for a domain name

Home > Domain names and support > Resolve a dispute > Administrative contact for a domain

This form allows you to send an email to the administrative contact for a domain name under the TLDs managed by Afnic, the holder of which did not wish for their full contact details to be published in the Whois directory (‘restricted publication’ by default).

* Required fields.

Purpose of the interface

The domain name holder must appoint an administrative contact during their registration request and keep this contact information up to date throughout the duration of use of the domain name. The relevance of the database requires all information concerning the holder and its contacts to be published online and be accessible to all. However, within the framework of domain name registration for ‘private individual’ holders, the holder and administrative contact benefit from a ‘restricted publication’ option by default, rendering personal administrative contact details (surname, first name, phone number, fax and email address) inaccessible to third parties. Without derogating from this provision in compliance with applicable personal data protection provisions and, in particular with Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 applicable from 25 May 2018 (the ‘GDPR’), Afnic provides third parties with a tool to get in touch with the administrative contact of a domain name, the personal data of the holder of which are not published in the Whois database. This allows the requesting third party to connect without knowing the identity of the holder and of the administrative contact, ensuring full protection of their anonymity.

Conditions of use of the interface

Within the framework of this service, Afnic transfers the message without checking its content, without any final control, verification of the accuracy of the recipient's email address or verification of the identity of the sender. Afnic’s role in this procedure is to transfer the message, unchanged, from the third party to the administrative contact identified in the Whois database without consulting the content of the message at any time. Afnic cannot guarantee a response on the part of the administrative contact, nor guarantee that the latter has received and opened the message sent. Afnic is in no way responsible for the request for transmission of messages, and does not carry out any recipient selection, nor does it select, modify or view any message content. For the effective administration of the service, and for security and/or statistical purposes, Afnic collects the surname, first name, and email address of the sender. Use of this interface is also subject to archiving limited to the above-mentioned collected data as well as connection data (IP address) and in no way concerns the content of the messages, which remain the sole responsibility of the sender. These data are stored for a period of 12 months. In any case, this service is used under the sole responsibility of the sender. It is for the latter to implement the conventional means set out in the charter in the absence of a satisfactory result (see the Naming Charter). Afnic cannot be held liable in the event of use for other purposes than those set out in said terms and conditions.

Data (identifying and connection data and the message) are collected by Afnic for processing of ‘introductions to administrative contacts’, the purposes of which are to:

  • Put a third party in touch with the administrative contact of a domain name when the holder’s data are subject to restricted publication;
  • Enable third parties to send a message to the administrative contact via an interface on the website www.afnic.fr;
  • Generate statistics.

The lawful basis of the processing is your free and informed consent.
The recipients are Afnic for the transfer and the administrative contact, the recipient of your message.
The data are stored for one year as of sending of the message.
You have personal rights (of access to and rectification and erasure of data, the right to restrict or to oppose processing and to portability, the right to withdraw your consent at any time without impact on the lawfulness of the processing and the right to lodge a complaint with a controlling authority and the right to lay down guidelines relating to the retention, erasure and communication of your personal data in the event of your death) which you can exercise by sending an email to the Afnic DPO (dpo@afnic.fr).
