Request deletion of misappropriated information in the Whois directory

This form allows you to request the deletion of your personal information that has been misappropriated when registering one or more domain names under the following TLDs: .fr, .pm, .re, .tf, .wf and .yt. We refer here to domain names registered under NIC handles using your identity without your knowledge.

Filing your complaint

If you are a victim of identity theft, you must start by filing a complaint with the competent authorities (police or gendarmerie) and then send it to us, completing the form below, in order to have your misappropriated information removed from the Whois database.

To enable you to identify all the domain names registered under NIC handles using your misappropriated information, you must make a request to Afnic to access your personal data from Afnic before filing your complaint.

Action taken by Afnic

Afnic will process your request in application of Articles 12 and 17 of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 as amended by the corrigendum published in the OJEU L127/2 of 23 May 2018 (the GDPR) while respecting the rights of domain name holders as defined by the legal framework incorporated into the Naming Charter.

You will receive an answer from Afnic as soon as possible, and at the latest at the end of the month following the notice of receipt of this form.

In the event of identity theft in connection with the registration of domain names, based on the complaint filed by the applicant, Afnic will ask the Registrar to contact its customer (holder of the domain name in question) asking said customer to confirm their identity. In parallel, Afnic will freeze the domain name. The domain name will be deleted by the Registrar if it is unable to validate the identity of the holder, thus confirming the identity theft.

When the identity theft is proven and as a result the domain names in question are deleted, Afnic will then proceed to delete the NIC handles concerned.

Commitments of the applicant and his/her representative

You confirm that you have taken note of the terms and conditions of this form used to exercise your personal rights as defined in the GDPR. You understand that Afnic must verify your identity and that of your representative if applicable, and that Afnic may ask you to provide further, more detailed information if necessary.

You certify that the information provided in this application is accurate. Please note in this regard that any wilful attempt to mislead incurs your liability and may lead to prosecution.

The information concerning domain name holders processed by Afnic corresponds to the information entered by the Registrar(s) at the time of the request for registration of the domain name(s) in question. You and your representative undertake not to seek to hold Afnic liable in respect of personal data transmitted by the Registrar(s).

In application of the legal framework specific to domain names, Afnic does not conduct any prior checks on requests for registration, with the exception of those relating to the terms subject to prior review as provided by the Naming Charter. Domain names are registered on the basis of statements made by the holder and under the holder’s sole responsibility. You and your representative undertake not to seek to hold Afnic liable in respect of erroneous, false or misleading personal data or for any omission in the Whois database. Similarly, Afnic accepts no liability arising from the registration and/or use of a domain name, or for any direct or indirect prejudicial consequences arising therefrom.

Attention: this form does not allow you to:

  • challenge a domain name that is identical or similar to your surname and first name;
  • challenge domain names registered without your knowledge using the contact details of your business, as a legal entity, but without using your personal data in registering them.
